Park Homes, also referred to as mobile homes are factory assembled dwellings in which they are transported to the place of occupation rather than built on the actual site.
This type of housing was derived from “travel trailers”. It is a small livable unit with wheel attachments to make it mobile. The primary use of such units was for camping. As time went by, travel trailers were manufactured to become larger units but still retain its high mobility. The use of such units as dwelling places had become much closer to that of traditional homes. They were then referred to as house trailers.
Mobility was the unit’s strong suit and it was marketed primarily as home with wheels. Eventually, it began to be promoted as a type of inexpensive housing unit that can be set up and transported to a location and left there for a long time. By that time, the units had become larger and more spacious. It was beginning to look like more of a standard house.
The evolution had made the difference between “mobile homes” and “house trailers” become more distinguishable. However, the manufacturing of larger units still did not stop. Newer units are not practical to move any longer but they are still prefabricated off-site and transported to the designated location of occupancy. Permits are now required to move such houses and when they are deployed to a location, they are usually kept there permanently.
